Went to a shoot for a
DRTV commercial last Sunday with production company Jellyfielders, shooting a
fairly amusing script that I’d written for a student-based product.
Because there was
virtually no budget, everyone was working for their portfolios. So with no
financial motivation, and it being a Sunday, everyone simply decided to have
fun.
The director didn’t
have a strop when a light caught flame, she just grabbed it, put it out and
replaced the bulb. She didn’t blame the grip, the gaffer, the spark, the best
boy or the blonde, she was all of those things. She was also the DoP – or one
of them anyway, we actually had two cameras rolling the whole time.
The actors didn’t sulk
in corners trying to get their agents to up their fees, they just kept coming
up with funnier nuances on their characters.
The account director
didn’t fret about whatever account directors fret about, there was none. The
client didn’t fret about the packshots, he was too busy enjoying himself. And
they looked great anyway. And for the first time in my experience, the shoot
was all wrapped up an hour ahead of schedule.
Can’t wait to post the
edited result here.
